How much a website costs in Spain and what changes the price

By Jester In3 min read

A website has no single price in Spain: it depends on what type of site you need, how much work goes into it and what happens after it goes live. That's why two quotes for "a website" can be talking about very different things.

You won't find prices here. Every website is quoted according to what it needs to achieve, and a figure without context only leads to bad comparisons. What we can tell you is what to look at to understand any quote you receive.

Types of website, from least to most work

  1. One page. Everything on one long screen: who you are, what you do and how to contact you. Useful to get started or for a specific service.
  2. Company website. Several pages: home, services, about, contact and perhaps a blog. It's what most businesses need.
  3. Online shop. Adds a catalogue, cart, payments, shipping and order management. It's a different league in work and responsibility.
  4. Custom. Bookings, customer areas, connections with other software. Each one is studied separately.

What changes the price

  • Copy. If you write it, that's one job. If it has to be written around what your customers and Google look for, it's another.
  • Photos and video. Stock photos, your own photos or a professional shoot. It shows in the result and in the price.
  • Design. Adapting a template or designing something of your own for your brand.
  • Languages. Every extra language is extra work.
  • Search ranking. The basics so Google understands the site should always be there. A full SEO project is separate.
  • Legal pages. Legal notice, privacy and cookies are mandatory in Spain. Ask whether they're included.

The costs people forget

A website doesn't end on launch day. Every year you have to renew the domain (your address, like yourbusiness.com) and the hosting (where the site lives). It's also wise to have maintenance: backups, security updates and whatever changes come up. Always ask what's included and what's paid separately.

Do it yourself, a freelancer or an agency

With tools like Wix or WordPress you can build it yourself. You save money, but it takes a fair amount of time and the result depends on your skill. A freelancer is usually more flexible and deals with you directly. An agency can add copy, photos, video and search ranking without you looking for anyone else. Choose based on what you need.

How to compare quotes

Ask for the number of pages and what each one includes

That way you'll know whether two quotes describe the same website.

Ask who provides copy and photos

It's one of the biggest differences between quotes and one of the least explained.

Clarify the costs afterwards

Domain, hosting and maintenance: what they cost each year and who pays.

Make sure everything is in your name

The domain and access to the website must be yours. If you change supplier tomorrow, you take it with you.

Warning signs

  • They ask nothing about your business before quoting.
  • The domain is registered to whoever builds the site instead of to you.
  • They don't tell you what happens if you want to change something a year from now.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website cost in Spain?

It depends on the type of site, the number of pages, whether copy and photos need to be created, whether it sells online and what's included after launch. A one-page site and an online shop have nothing in common, in work or in price.

What costs does a website have after it's built?

At the very least, renewing the domain and hosting every year. It's also wise to budget for maintenance: backups, updates and small changes.

Is a template or a custom website better?

A template is quicker and can work to get started. A custom website adapts to what your customers look for and to your brand. What matters is that it loads fast, reads well on mobile and brings you enquiries.
